The gambling industry has seen its fair share of adventurous people but nothing compares to this list of players who made incredibly risky choices with equally shocking results.

A novelty bet is a bet on everyday occurrences that has nothing to do with casinos. In 1989, a man visited the local bookie and made several bets on things he predicted would happen before the year 2000. His bets included U2 remaining a group and singer Cliff Richards being knighted, among other things. He was correct on all five of his bets and walked away with more than 190,000 pounds.

In 2004, a young man sold his car, his clothes and all of his other personal belongings and headed to Las Vegas with his entire life savings of $135,300. He bet it all on one roulette spin, won $272,000 and started his own online poker site.

A down-on-his-luck Las Vegas man had just been kicked out of his house when he went to cash his $400 social security check. He headed to a Las Vegas casino with his money and won $1 million playing blackjack. Unfortunately, he continued to play and lost it all, including his original $400.

The most outrageous bet in gambling history consists of a man walking into a Las Vegas casino in the 1980’s with $777,000 and bet it all on the Don’t Pass Line in craps. He won that bet and went on to place several more bets worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. His luck began to run out, however, when he placed a record $1 million bet on an unknown game and lost it all. After losing all of his money he bet his life in a game of Russian Roulette and lost again.
