Social media has left its mark on almost every internet-based industry, from online dating to online shopping. The only market that has yet to use social networking to its full advantage has been online gambling, but players are making their demands for social media integration known.
Many online bingo websites have already implemented networking into their players’ gaming environments. Using in-game chatrooms, online bingo players can communicate while taking part in their favourite leisure activity. Many players have reported making new friends and keeping in contact with existing friends using only online bingo applications.
Now, online gambling operators are looking into similar applications, in order to create a tight community, in which their players can congregate. Most are using Facebook as a model for their new applications, which will include built-in chatrooms and event invitations. Players will be able to send invites to their friends, requesting their presence at a tournament or table. They will also be able to keep in touch using chat and message applications that are directly equipped to the casino’s software.
This will be the next great phase of online gambling technology, according to many industry insiders. Software and individual games have reached a plateau, and operators will soon use social networking applications to compete with one another, similar to the way in which bonuses are used as competition fuel.
